Dear friends of Padre Kino,

Last Sepetember despite some problems  with my computer I received at our E Mail info@padrekino.org a message from Mrs. Alexandra Carsten of the German office of the National Geographic Magazine, (National Geographic Deutschland).

We were asked to supply a potrait of Padre Kino suitable to be incldued in a book concerning the 100 most importat explorers of the past millennium.

I am now stun and glad to announce that the book is ready to tell to the Geraman readers the adventures of Padre Eusebio Francisco Kino.

I would like to express my deepest thank you to Mrs. Carsten and to the NGD, to the German Jesuits,  who have suppòied a high definition portrait in addition to Father Polzer and the Jesuits fathers of Arizona who allowed the use of the image.

NGD via Mrs. Carsten has presented a copy of the beautiful volume to the Museum of Segno. The volume can also be requested via NGD visting their web site  www.nationalgeographic.de. For the Association members the price is € 29,4.

we report here below some of the E-Mail exchanged on the subject with Mrs. Carsten.

Miss Alexandra,
If it is a complimentary copy I would say to present it to the museum of Padre Kino in his native town SEGNO where we keep most of the literature
on the Padre.
You can  send it to our Association President

Sig. Silvio Chini
Associazione e Museo
Padre Eusebio Chini
Piazza E. F. Chini
38010 - SEGNO (Trento ) Italy

If you can instruct us how to buy other copy we can do that directly either
by mail or through bookstalls in Germany.

Dear Paolo,

first of all, I would like to thank you very much for your help.
But I'm a little bit in trouble: I have one free copy of the book as a complimentary copy for the image of Padre Kino.
I'm not quite sure, to whom I have to send it. To you or P. Carlo. You sent us the image, but The Jesuits gave the permission.
Could you please help me ?
Anyway I would need the address to send the book to.

Thank you very much in advance.

Kind regards
Alexandra

Paolo,
There are two O'Brien portraits of Kino.  One is the sketch in charcoal and the other is an oil painting.  Both were given to the Historical Society, but the charcoal sketch was first reproduced by Jane Ivancovich and permission was given for us (both the SMRC and the Jesuits of Southern Arizona) to use it at any time.  So the NGD can use the sketch and credit the Jesuits Fathers of Southern Arizona.
                                                                     Ciao     P. Carlo
