Robert Redford Directed Organization Returns Kino Horses to Arizona. Actor & conservationist Redford is a director of the non profit organization “Return to Freedom” (RTF). Several years ago the Gila Wild Horse Herd in Arizona was captured by the federal government and was saved from death by a heroic woman who adopted the herd and took them to a sanctuary ranch in South Dakota. The ranch recently fell on troubled times. The video documents the return of the Gila Horse Herd two weeks ago. The Gila Horses are descendants of the Spanish Horse that Kino brought to Arizona beginning in 1691. Hopefully the RTF conservation program will ensure the existence of the Kino Horses for future generations.

A Glimpse of the Gila Herd Reunion
On June 15, 25 geldings and seven stallions from the rescued Gila herd were reunited with more than 60 mares, yearlings, weanlings and foals.
In recent months, the herd has traveled from snowy South Dakota, where last fall the state found that they and hundreds of other horses had been neglected, to a dusty temporary staging area in Fallon, NV, where they received much-needed care, and, finally, to the ponds, trees and green pastures of Lassen County, Calif.
